About Optivus Proton Therapy, Inc.
Some of the original Optivus Engineering Team Members - circa 1988
In 1988 Loma Linda University Medical Center in Southern California undertook the challenge of building the world’s first hospital-based Proton Beam Cancer Treatment Center under the planned Children’s Hospital Wing. The facility would consist of 3 gantry rooms and 2 fixed-beam rooms.
In October of 1990, the first treatment room was fully operational and shortly thereafter, the original engineering team, led by Jon W. Slater, was entrusted with the technical enhancement and maintenance of the entire treatment center.
To meet future demands for this life-saving technology, within commercial markets, the engineering team transformed into a commercial business entity in 1993. The company was founded on principals of continuous excellence in design and development of this disease treatment technology. This company was named Optivus Technology, Inc.
"We are committed to doing the best work possible for our customers, staff and for patients who need our technology. We appreciate the impact our life-saving work has on society and the environment and we continue to search for improvements in our operations, products and supply chain so that we can continue our pattern of exceptional performance."
– Jon W. Slater, CEO
“Each employee has a profound effect on the future of cancer treatment. We have the most talented and dedicated teams in the proton therapy industry; a team whose commitment to our purpose has allowed Optivus to achieve goals once thought impossible.
Optivus looks to 2012 with great excitement, as our organization has entered into a new era.”
– David Stokes, President
Optivus is Latin for continuous improvement to reach an Optimum.
